Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you started writing children’s books?
My name is Jacqueline Flores, and I’m from the countryside of São Paulo, Brazil.
I’ve been working as a web designer for over twenty years.
Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved reading and creating my own stories — but only now am I having the opportunity to publish them.
I love writing for children because it allows me to connect with my light, sweet, and dreamy side — with my inner child.
-
What inspired your first story, and what inspires you now?
When I wrote Flip-flop the Kitten, I was inspired by the everyday behavior of cats and how it naturally entertains both children and adults.
My second book, The Ladybug and the Little Girl, was inspired by the many little ladybug visits I often get at home.
I pay attention to the simple and spontaneous moments in life — and that’s what I love to write about.
-
Do you focus on a particular age group or genre in children’s literature?
Each story comes to life naturally. Later, I analyze which age group it fits best.
-
Which authors or books influenced your writing journey the most?
Children’s authors, in general, who keep the softness and purity in their stories and write with a purpose.
-
What do you enjoy most about writing for children?
I like to bring children a sense of wonder, comfort, and fun when I write a children’s story.
-
How do you develop your characters and story ideas?
The characters and stories come from my observation of life, personal experiences, and the lessons I’ve learned.
-
Do you collaborate with illustrators, and what is that process like for you?
At the moment, I’ve been doing all the design, artwork, and editing for my books myself.
I have a great interest in digital illustration and plan to keep improving my skills in this area.
-
What themes or messages do you hope children take away from your books?
I hope children feel good, comforted, and happy when they read my books.
May they be encouraged to always keep kind feelings and positive actions in their hearts.
-
Is there one book you’ve written that holds a special place in your heart? Why?
Both of the books I’ve published are special to me. I just can’t choose only one.
-
Where can readers, parents, and teachers find more of your work online?
My books are avaiable on Amazon Kindle Unlimited. I'll be glad if they read an leave a review.
