Inside the Mind - Sophie Meadows

  • What inspired you to become a children’s author?
As a child, books felt like doors to secret worlds. I wanted to give other children that same feeling of wonder.
  • Where do your story ideas usually come from?
Most come from nature—trees, rivers, and animals spark little “what if” questions in my mind.
  • Who is your favorite character you’ve created?
Lily, a girl who speaks with owls. She’s brave but still makes mistakes, which makes her real.
  • Do you write every day?
Yes, even if it’s just 200 words. Small steps keep me moving forward without pressure.
  • What books did you love as a child?
The Secret Garden and Charlotte’s Web. They made me believe that words could hold magic.
  • Do you test your stories with children before publishing?
Absolutely. I visit classrooms and read chapters aloud—kids are the most honest critics.
  • What’s the hardest part of writing for kids?
Keeping the language simple without losing depth. Children deserve smart stories too.
