Inside the Mind - Daniel Rivers

  • What made you start writing children’s books?
I wanted to capture the funny, awkward moments of childhood and show kids that it’s okay to be themselves.
  • Where do your ideas come from?
Mostly from my own childhood mischief, plus stories I hear from kids during school visits.
  • Do you base your characters on real people?
Often, yes! My class clown character is inspired by my best friend growing up.
  • What’s your writing routine like?
I write in the mornings with a strong coffee and always end by jotting tomorrow’s first line.
  • Which children’s book influenced you most?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid showed me that humor and honesty make the perfect mix.
  • Do kids inspire your stories?
Definitely. Their silly jokes, fears, and wild imaginations are pure gold for storytelling.
  • What challenges do you face writing for kids?
Making jokes that are funny for children but not too confusing or grown-up.
  • How do you keep your stories engaging?
Short chapters, lots of humor, and cliffhangers that make kids beg for “just one more page.”
