Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you started writing children’s books?
I live and breathe the ocean. My whole world in on, in, or around the ocean.

What inspired your first story, and what inspires you now?
My experiences as a female deckhand on a large ship.

Do you focus on a particular age group or genre in children’s literature?
My non-fiction book is for adults, now now I mostly focus on kids books and book videos.

Which authors or books influenced your writing journey the most?
Robert Munch, Tolkein, JK Rowling

What do you enjoy most about writing for children?
I love getting lost in my thoughts.

How do you develop your characters and story ideas?
Usually based on experiences with people and places.

Do you collaborate with illustrators, and what is that process like for you?
Yes I have an illustrator for my published kids book.

What themes or messages do you hope children take away from your books?
Teaching kids about the ocean

Is there one book you’ve written that holds a special place in your heart? Why?
My first book Women at Sea will always hold a special place in my heart. It took me 10 years to write and publish it.
